The purpose of the Americas Council is to provide a venue in which faculty from the University System of Georgia may engage and share their individual and collective expertise and/or interest in Latin America and Canada. Further, the Council undertakes initiatives that promote the Board of Regents policy on internationalization of the University System of Georgia curriculum and faculty.
The World Regional Council for the Americas (Americas Council) is open to all faculty and staff in the University System of Georgia who have a professional interest in the countries of the region. It seeks to build an active participatory membership of campus faculty and staff with interests in and expertise about the Americas, facilitating communication and providing a useful forum where issues of common concern can be shared, discussed, and resolved.

The Americas Council reports to the University System of Georgia Board of Regents Office of International Education. The mission of the System's Office of International Education (OIE) is to strengthen the global dimensions of teaching, learning, research, and service throughout the University System of Georgia. OIE's primary goal is to ensure that all USG students attain an appropriate level of international knowledge and understanding that enables them to participate fully and successfully in a global society.
