GIS Certificate Program


To meet the needs of our students and the community we serve, KSU offers a 15-semester hour GIS certificate program.

The GIS certificate program is designed for traditional and non-traditional students. The program is designed to provide a practical set of GIS marketable skills to traditional students who wish to access the GIS market. Students from different majors can include the GIS certificate courses into their degree program and earn a minor in Geography.

Non-conventional students and professionals can improve and update their GIS knowledge and then enhance their GIS career.

Applicants must enroll as a student at KSU through the office of admissions.

Prerequisites for this program are:
Geog 1101 or Geog 2105 or equivalent course
Math 1101 or Math 1106 or equivalent course

Core courses are:
Geog 3305 - Introduction to Cartography
Geog 3315 - Introduction to GIS (3305 co-requisite)
Geog 4405 - Advanced GIS (3315 prerequisite)
Geog 4410 - Introduction to Remote Sensing(4405 co-requisite)
Geog 4415 - GIS Practicum (4405 prerequisite & permission of instructor)

The GIS Practicum gives students the opportunity to apply their skills in a real world setting with various companies and local government agencies.
